Enugu State: Setting the Pace in Politics and Development.
As we move towards another transition of power
In Nigeria and the world at large, politics has been faced with different challenges arising from different factions in politics. This is reflected in the numerous cries from citizens looking for solutions and interventions.
These challenges include but are not limited to; adequate security, affordable food availability, portable water supply and general economic growth.
In Enugu State, the current government is making remarkable progress even as some challenges are yet to be fully addressed.
Firstly, the political atmosphere in Enugu state has been nothing but friendly within the past few years of the present administration. Activities such as elections are held on level grounds without any form of violence being recorded.
The spirit of sportsmanship among politicians within the state is admirable and informed by the tenets of democracy which is the foundation on which our country Nigeria was founded. This is exemplified by the way the governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, often seeks the opinion and guidance of the people through the traditional and religious leaders.
Next, the issue of security within any given society is one that should be held in high regard. This is because the sense of security fosters economic growth as investors are assured of their safety and that of their investments.
Enugu state can boast as a leading state in Nigeria when it comes to the issue of security. Most residents and visiting tourists can testify to the peaceful ambience of the State.
On the 17th of February 2021, Commandant Valentine Ezenyimuru, the new Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Enugu State Command, applauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s peace and development strategies with policies that focus on ensuring stability for all.
The peaceful atmosphere within Enugu state is evidence of the governor’s commitment to having a conducive environment for all.
All around the world, the year 2020 was nothing short of a nightmare due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Economies were stretched to their limits. And the most vulnerable and poor in the society were restricted from getting adequate care and provisions.
The First Lady, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi, on 30th July 2020 educated residents from the 17 local government areas within the state, on safety measures to ensure that they were not affected. Alongside, the distribution of palliatives that included food items and facemasks.
Furthermore, the strain on the health sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic required the provision of health equipment and kits which was actively done as precautionary measures to ensure that the health sector was not taken unawares.
Today, Enugu State Government has started rolling out COVID-19 vaccines to the 17 Local Government Areas of the state to ensure that health workers, strategic leaders and the highly vulnerable get their jabs.
Ugwuanyi exemplified his leadership status, as being one of the first key stakeholders in the state to receive the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
“The State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; his deputy, Cecilia Ezeilo; the state Chief Judge; the Speaker of the state House of Assembly; House members; traditional rulers; all Chief Medical Directors of government-owned hospitals and frontline workers at the COVID-19 isolation centres received their jabs publicly.
“This is to reassure our people that the vaccine is safe and effective, with no side effect. And that what the whole world, national and state governments are doing is not a joke.”
“The state, through its ENS-PHCDA, had trained and prepared 102 vaccination teams, which comprises over 450 Primary Health Care (PHC) workers and health educators for the first batch of vaccination.”
One of the hallmarks of the present Enugu state government, under the leadership of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is its people-oriented policies. As we move towards another transition of power, we are hopeful that the commendable democratic environment continues to bloom.
Enugu state has long been known for its commitment towards ensuring the peaceful coexistence of all people who come to the state for diverse purposes and this government is committed to maintaining and improving such standards.
Today, all these efforts pay off by presenting Enugu state as one of the most functional states within the country.
